ZigZag Circuit adds a new twist to kid’s activities in Abingdon
Ballet and tap were the only children’s activities on offer before the Whitehorse Leisure and Tennis Centre installed ZigZag Circuit. Now, a year later, family memberships are booming.
Karen Rogers, health and fitness manager said: “ZigZag Circuit has definitely boosted the family profile of the centre. We’ve even had a couple of the circuit kids encourage their parents to join the gym. Now they all work out together!”
The ZigZag Circuit range is incorporated into the main gym at the centre, so that the children can understand, and enjoy, being part of the whole ‘gym experience’. The associated programmes are included in the adult class workouts too, to give the children a real sense of belonging.
“We run a series of programmes to progress the children from when they join at 7 to when they become young adults at 16. And because ZigZag Circuit was installed as part of the main gym, when they turn 16 the gym and adult equipment isn’t daunting to them.”
But it’s not just 7-15 year olds making the most of the ZigZag Circuit range. “Some of the smaller adults find our other equipment too big to use, so they also work out on the ZigZag kit,” said Karen. “The sports injury class, cardiac rehab class and members on GP referral also use it, as well as many of our older members. Basically it’s always in use! If there isn’t a children’s class running the adult members will be using it.”
